The Fight

The Fight

At age fifteen Richard Wright wrote his first story "The Voodoo of Hell's Half-Acre". which was published in Southern Register, a local black newspaper. Wright wrote numerous proletarian poems such as "I Have Seen Black Hands," "We of the Streets," and "Red Leaves of Red Books". Richard wright completed his first novel in 1935, "Cesspool," which is published as "Lawd" today, In January 1936 his story "Big Boy Leaves Home" was accepted for publication in New Caravan. In 1938 Wright became the Harlem editor of the Daily Worker.

Richard Wright reacts to the situation as if he was man enough to deal with anyone that steps to him. As if he experienced it before or could take on more then one one person at the same time. Although he was scared, he held his grounds. Wright made it seem as if the boy didn't back down he would get seriously hurt. Richard just wanted to prove to his new class mates and the whole school that he wasn't just another "nobody". His anxiety indicates that things to turn out as a draw off. which meant that no one won. However to finalize that no one else will try them, Richard challenged his enemy to another fight but he didn't show. Richard knew that there wasn't going to be any more problems.

I strongly agree with what how Richard reacted. He had a lot anxiety in the first place about going to a new school,"My anxiety was still in me; I was wondering how I would get on with the boys." I also agree with him about going to a new school. We always have to find new friends, prove our self as a "somebody" or be label as a geek or someone that doesn't matters. There's always going to be a person who tries to test us one way or the other. Either they talk about us right in our face to someone else or they talk to us directly.

As for me and how I would react, I believe I would react the same or similar way to Richard. I personally hate going to a new school. Being in my old school,"Blessed Sacrament Saint Gabriel," was so comfortable for me. I felt at home; arriving every morning and saying hi to everyone. There was never a day that I wanted to stay home. However when I started my new school,"Edward A. Reynolds West Side HS," although I knew at least one person that went there, I still had to adjust to the people that she hung out with. It was either that or I had to find new ones. Time went by and I became a little more familiar with the school and the people in it. Teachers knew my name, students were saying hi to me. I also met one girl that lived close to me, Krystal, so we began to take the bus to and from school together.

In conclusion Richard Wright did the same as any one else in that kind of situation. As for i agree with what Richard did. There was no other way to prove his self to some one that you never a day in your life. He knew it was coming and however he didn't know what the outcome was going to be. One thin he did know was that he was going to have to face it sooner or later.
